Organic, Wood, steel, baobab seeds, spot light, one motor, 6½ ft. tall, 1997
On an metaconstruction made of metal and on a wooden structure hang six different rotating chains consisting of dead plant material. They rotate in different directions and with varying speeds. The plant material is iluminated by a spotlight from below and casts shadows on the body symbolized by the wooden structure and on the surrounding area. Seeds are visible in some of the clusters of the plants, mostly beans from the African baobab tree. Beauty and meaningless are thus represented by the unused fruit of the plant. The baobab is symbol and host of fertility charms in the South African culture. Top of Page | Home: Master Degree Work: "Organic" |
